7 Efficient Packing Tips for Summer Camp

Sending your child off to summer camp can be a whirlwind of mixed emotions. You might be looking forward to some me time, but at the same time concerned that your little one will have a good time during their time at camp.

Well, now that the time has come to get them ready for camp the best thing that you can do for your kids it to ensure that they have all of the essential items and clothes that they need to enjoy their visit to camp. Of course, you should contact the summer camp to make sure that you are packing everything that your child needs for the duration of their stay.

1. The bag

You’re going to need a bag that is large enough to fit all of the clothes that your child needs for the time that they’re at camp, but not so big that they are unable to lift it. The camp should be able to give you an idea of the storage space that will be available to your child. Usually, most parents opt for the duffle bag style for camp. You should make sure to write your child’s name on the bag so that they can differentiate it from the other children’s bags.

2. A flashlight

Hopefully, your child will be to engrossed in the campfire and the other activities to have much use for a flashlight. The flashlight is more of a security blanket than anything else. Many camps will often insist that flashlights are not to be used unless absolutely necessary as the camp will be adequately lit at night.

3. Clothing

Shorts, t-shirts, socks and underwear. Seems simple right. Well, you will probably not be surprised that some of this socks may disappear during your child’s visit to camp. For this reason, you may not want to pack their favourite clothing as some items are easily forgotten. This is especially likely if this is the child’s first visit to camp. You should make sure that you have gone over the list of required clothing for your child that will be provided by the camp. Children are often required to bring a swimsuit as most of the activities at the camp will revolve around a lake or water.

4. Toiletries

One thing that many parents will forget to pack for their children is toiletries. Cheap travel containers can be bought from any dollar store and can be the perfect size for a week or so at camp. The basics such as toothbrush and toothpaste will obviously be needed.

5. Medication and first aid

This will need a little more attention and if your child needs any medication, then there will be procedures in place to ensure that your child is well looked after their stay and that all camp counsellors are aware of what your child needs.

6. Leave the technology at home

As you’re sending your child to camp you want to make sure that they make the most out of their trip. The last thing that you want to happen is for them to spend the entire week playing games on their phone. After all, they could have just done that at home and saved you some money.

7. Water bottle

You should get them a reusable water bottle. This will allow them to always stay hydrated and stay alert for the whole time they are at camp. This is another item that you should clearly label with their name so that it doesn’t get lost, and if it does it will find its way back to them.
